Community members want students to vote on best painted parking spot.

One of the most popular back-to-school traditions for junior and senior students is designing and painting their parking spots. Parking spots in the freshman building parking lot and along the front of the school were available for purchase on August 4th for seniors and August 7th for juniors.  As soon as students secure their spot and get their design approved by Mrs. Evans, the assistant principal in charge of student parking, they are free to begin working on their spot and make their mark on campus.

“I bought brushes, tape, painting trays, and at least 12 quarts of paint,” junior Molly Pitts said. “Going back, I would have bought a gallon, but I underestimated how much I needed at first. I went two or three times at night and once in the morning. It was way cooler at night, and there were more people there so it was more fun to paint the spots. I was able to be around a lot of people I don’t normally talk to and we all had a fun time painting. We also helped each other. For example, Ella has better handwriting than me so she helped me write my name.”

Students also had the opportunity to mingle with other students by walking around the parking lot to observe all the different designs.

“I walked around and asked how everyone’s spot was coming along,” junior Zoey Hutchins said.

As students spend time painting alongside each other, they can share ideas and collaborate on their designs. This created an opportunity for students to bond and build a sense of community within the student body.

“I enjoyed talking to people I normally wouldn’t talk to that were next to me,” junior Jean Choi said. “We were all up there working together and it was good to meet new people.”

Painting parking spots is a way to make coming back to school more exciting. Seeing vibrant and personalized designs as you enter the parking lot can create a positive and welcoming atmosphere.

“A lot of people can see your creativity, compliment each other, and get ideas from one another,” junior Gezle Uson said.

The painted spots also provide students with an opportunity to get to know each other by displaying their personalities on the pavement.

“The parking spots liven up our parking lot and it’s so cool to see what others create and how to implement their style into their parking spot,” junior Anna Claire McKenzie said.

Jennifer Criss Montes, owner-operator of Nacogdoches Pediatric Dentistry, has noticed all of the hard work that went into these pieces of art and she wants to show her appreciation for their creativity and dedication by rewarding one of the students with an Amazon gift card.  We need your help choosing the best parking spot on campus.  Please cast your vote below; the voting window closes next Wednesday, September 20th at 3:00p.m.
