One Act Play cast and crew are preparing for their upcoming UIL competition March 18-19 at Porter High School. They will compete against other 5A schools in their district with hopes to advance to bi-district. This year’s play is an adaptation of the well-known Shakespeare play, Macbeth.

“It’s 3 or 4 months of hard work for 40 minutes on a stage, but it flies by like it’s nothing,” senior Brianna Hightower said. “You can’t change a script, so we add in our own special touches and it makes the show really interesting. It’s something you wouldn’t really expect from Macbeth.”

Hightower, who has been cast in the role of Lady Macbeth, has been a member of the theater program for seven years, from middle to high school. This year will be many seniors’ last performances including the leading actor, Macbeth himself.

“I’ve been looking forward to having a more serious role than what I have done in the past,” senior Mars McIntosh said.

Throughout this school year, One Act has not only been preparing students for competition, but it has also created connections between cast members who all have a love for the thrill of theater. From freshman to senior, everyone has something in common.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to be in one act play because of all the friends I can make and be in something that’s fun to do,” freshman Grady Hart said.

Macbeth will be an opportunity to showcase our talented cast and crew to parents, teachers, and students around our district. This unique adaptation shows how timeless classic literature acts are.

“The story may be old but the themes of greed and power aren’t,” junior Rees Runnels said.
